Yoshi's House is the home where Yoshi lives. In Super Mario World, it is depicted as a tree with a fireplace, a mailbox and seven berries (ten in Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2), and it is located on Yoshi's Island.

When arriving at Dinosaur Land, Mario and Luigi are closest to this location. They can inspect his Message Block to find that the inhabitant had gone to find his kidnapped friends. Mario and Luigi can come back riding any Yoshi to find the note replaced with a hint to investigate Kappa Mountain. The home reappears during the credits, where Yoshi, Yoshi's friends (representing the four legendary colors and the seven Baby Yoshis from each numbered castle), Princess Toadstool and Mario and/or Luigi celebrate their victory.

Yoshi's house appears in Mario Superstar Baseball, where it cameos as a Yoshi's Story-reminiscent cardboard cutout in the background of the Yoshi Park stage. Also, several trees lined up in a noticeably similar design decorate the goal areas in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS. One of these tree setups even appears on the map of the original Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Several houses similar to in appearance to Yoshi's House appear on Yo’ster Isle in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

Another Yoshi's House appears in Super Mario Galaxy 2 at Sky Station Galaxy. Similar to Super Mario World, Yoshi is not home. The sign in front of his house says a similar message as in Super Mario World. Although the house is not made of trees like its previous appearance, it is similar, having the sign reporting that he isn't home and there are berries on the roof as before.

Yoshi's House once again appears in Super Mario Odyssey. It is now located in the Mushroom Kingdom, retaining its Super Mario World appearance. Mario can travel to it by going through a painting in the Luncheon Kingdom. Unlike some other paintings that warp Mario between kingdoms, which are blank if Mario has not visited the kingdom they lead to, Mario can travel through this painting before the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom is unlocked, but cannot go beyond Yoshi's House. As in Super Mario Galaxy 2, there is a sign stating Yoshi is not home and is now at Peach's Castle. Mario can find a Power Star by Wall Jumping up the chimney.

Trivia[edit]

  • The symbol on the mailbox of Yoshi's House is 〒, the service mark of Japan Post.
  • In Super Mario World, the four birds on top of the roof are the same colors as the four colored Yoshis, as well as the Koopa Troopas and Switch Palaces.
  • The white stripe along the ground is also found in the SNES Test Program, suggesting that the level was finished early in development.
  • In Super Mario World, if the player rapidly presses the L and R buttons, the white smoke from the chimney will become glitched.

Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 is the portable port of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Having a long full title apparently runs in the family.

  • 3Unused Autoscroll Data
  • 7Regional Differences

Unused Graphics

Because it is for the most part a straight port, most if not all of the unused graphics from the original game remain.

Alternate (and strange-looking) versions of the Hint Box. Its expression never changes in-game.

The unused ? Block from the SNES game, now with 4 frames added.

The original title of the game is still stored in the title screen graphics, with its palette intact.

A big white box with a black X in the graphics of the island.

Unused Sprites

With exception of the Red Bullet Bill, all of the unused sprites and behavior remain unused in this port.

Sprite ID: F1
The Egg Plant variant that spits bubbles, except it doesn't spit bubbles in this port.

Sprite ID: 195
A smaller version of the tilting snowy platform.

Unused Autoscroll Data

Unused Autoscroll Command

There is an autoscroll command that is not used anywhere and is not associated to any sprite, the autoscroller command is as follows:

Note: The first value represents the X coordinate, the second value is the Y coordinate, and the third value is the scrolling speed.

Island

Unused Autoscroll End Command

Autoscroll end command FC is a duplicate of autoscroll end command FF, which is used to stop the autoscroll and locks the screen at the last area the autoscroll moved.

Yoshi

Level Behavior Oddity

Room ID EA (the fourth area of Secret 4: Fight Toadies w/ Toadies) has a unique special behavior where stationary sprites can stand on moving platforms. Bullet Bills Shooters however, are a special case: if the sprite is standing on the right edge of a moving platform, it only appears if you come from the left side. If it is standing on the left edge of a moving platform, it will only appear if you come from the right side of the screen. If it's standing in the middle, it will always appear. Since this room uses an autoscroll that moves the screen from left to right, only the Bullet Bill Shooters placed on the right edge of a platform can be seen.

Build Date

Japan (00305680)US (003077B0)Europe (003A77FC)

The text is loaded into a graphics map while on the title screen. There is no build date present in the Chinese version. Below is a mockup of the graphics map overlayed onto the title screen.

World 0

While not unused, it's unlikely that any normal player not knowing about this would ever see it. The 'World 0' icon can only be seen if you get a Game Over during the intro level, at which point your progress (or lack thereof) is saved. This icon is not present in the SNES version. In the SNES version, no equivalent exists: you are given an infinite number of lives on the intro level. Even setting your lives to zero via cheat code and then getting a Game Over will display only an empty file; the game does not save World 0 to SRAM.

Odyssey

As with the previous game, the graphics designers at NoA must have been out to lunch or something while this game was being localized, leaving us with this uninspired logo outside of Japan. Like thepreviousSuper Mario Advance games, China's is based from the Japanese title screen.

Graphical Differences

To do:
Compare graphics for the Secret stage icons.

All of the graphical differences from the original game apply here as well.

Stage Names

Three of the stages (two being secret stages) have different names in the European English version than in the American English version.
